Position: Steward (F&B Kitchen)
Job Overview
The Steward (F&B Kitchen) plays a crucial role in ensuring the kitchen operates efficiently and meets the highest hygiene and cleanliness standards. This position is essential in maintaining a well-organized kitchen while supporting chefs and other kitchen staff in their daily operations.
Stewards are responsible for cleaning kitchenware, handling dishwashing machines, disposing of waste, maintaining food hygiene practices, and ensuring compliance with HACCP and safety regulations. They work in a fast-paced, high-energy environment, ensuring that all areas of the kitchen are spotless and ready for use.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys teamwork, values cleanliness, and is eager to be a part of a professional culinary setting.
Primary Responsibilities
As a Steward (F&B Kitchen), your key responsibilities will include:
- Kitchen Maintenance & Cleanliness: Ensuring that all kitchen surfaces, floors, equipment, and storage areas are maintained to the highest standards of cleanliness.
- Dishwashing & Utensil Management: Operating and maintaining dishwashing machines, hand-washing kitchen utensils, and properly storing cleaned items for efficient kitchen operations.
- Garbage Disposal & Waste Management: Managing the disposal of kitchen waste safely and effectively, ensuring compliance with the resort’s sustainability initiatives.
- Equipment Handling & Storage: Properly handling kitchen tools and cleaning equipment while ensuring they are stored correctly after use.
- Adherence to Safety & Hygiene Protocols: Following HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points) guidelines to maintain food safety and hygiene.
- Chemical Handling & Sanitation: Using cleaning agents correctly to sanitize kitchen surfaces and equipment while ensuring staff safety.
- Utility & Resource Conservation: Assisting in managing water and electricity consumption by following best practices in cleaning and maintenance.
- Fire & First Aid Compliance: Participating in fire safety and first aid training as required by resort policies.
- Team Support: Assisting chefs and kitchen staff as needed to ensure smooth kitchen operations, especially during peak hours.
- Special Projects: Supporting supervisors with additional tasks or projects that may arise in the kitchen department.
Candidate Qualifications
To be successful in this role, candidates should meet the following requirements:
- Minimum of 1 year of relevant experience in a similar role within a kitchen or food & beverage operation.
- Exposure to kitchen operations is essential, with an understanding of basic kitchen workflows.
- Knowledge of cleaning equipment and the ability to operate dishwashing machines efficiently.
- Basic communication skills in English to effectively understand instructions and work within a multicultural team.
- Physical fitness and stamina to handle demanding kitchen tasks such as lifting, standing, and cleaning for extended periods.
- Understanding of chemical handling and proper use of cleaning agents to maintain hygiene and safety.
- Familiarity with HACCP food safety standards to ensure proper sanitation and hygiene.
