Assistant Manager, Sustainability Development – Role Overview
As the Assistant Manager, Sustainability Development, you will play a crucial role in implementing and managing marine conservation and sustainability programs at CROSSROADS Maldives. This position is ideal for someone who is passionate about marine biology, sustainability, and environmental education, while also being able to engage with guests, staff, and stakeholders to promote responsible tourism practices.
Key Responsibilities:
🔹 Marine Conservation & Sustainability Programs:
- Develop and oversee sustainability initiatives focused on marine conservation, coral restoration, and biodiversity protection.
- Work closely with local and international environmental organizations to ensure eco-friendly practices are in place.
- Conduct research on the impact of tourism on marine ecosystems and implement strategies to mitigate negative effects.
🔹 Guest & Community Engagement:
- Provide exceptional hospitality services while educating guests about marine conservation efforts.
- Conduct sustainability and marine biology presentations for guests, local communities, and resort staff.
- Organize workshops, guided snorkeling, and diving sessions to promote environmental awareness.
🔹 Sustainability Compliance & Policy Implementation:
- Ensure CROSSROADS Maldives meets international sustainability standards and certifications.
- Monitor environmental policies and ensure compliance with local and international marine protection regulations.
- Collaborate with resort management to integrate sustainability principles into day-to-day operations.
🔹 Team Leadership & Coordination:
- Lead a team of sustainability and marine conservation professionals.
- Work with a multicultural team in a remote island environment, ensuring smooth coordination across various departments.
- Provide training and guidance on sustainability best practices to resort staff.
Candidate Qualifications & Skills
To be successful in this role, the ideal candidate should have the following qualifications and attributes:
✅ Education & Certifications:
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Marine Biology or a relevant field.
- PADI Open Water Instructor Certification or an equivalent diving qualification.
✅ Experience & Skills:
- Prior experience in a sustainability or marine conservation role within a resort or hospitality setting is highly desirable.
- Previous experience working in the Maldives will be considered a strong advantage.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and management skills to engage with guests, staff, and external stakeholders.
- Ability to multitask, meet deadlines, and work flexible hours in a dynamic environment.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities, with a proactive approach to sustainability challenges.
