Position: Coral Restoration Intern

Location: Velaa Private Island, Noonu Atoll, Maldives
Reports To: Marine Biologist & Sustainability Manager and the Resident Marine Biologist

General Responsibilities

  • Conduct data collection and entry to monitor coral health and progress.
  • Assist in the construction, monitoring, and maintenance of coral nurseries and Biorock structures.
  • Engage in coral transplantation projects, transferring colonies to the reef to promote regeneration.
  • Conduct scientific surveys to assess coral and marine biodiversity.
  • Manage personal coral restoration projects, fostering innovative solutions for reef rehabilitation.
  • Assist in the Marine Center’s activities, including hosting the Young Marine Biologist Program for Kids Club.
  • Act as a guide for guests, educating them about marine conservation efforts and creating memorable experiences.

Skill Requirements

To thrive in this role, candidates must possess the following qualifications:

  • Certified Rescue Diver with at least 100 logged dives.
  • A degree in Marine Biology or a related field.
  • Previous experience in coral restoration is a significant advantage.
  • Strong knowledge of marine ecosystems, coral biology, and restoration techniques.
  • Proficiency in English, both written and spoken, with excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
  • Exceptional organizational and time-management skills.
