Privatization and Corporatization Board has appointed Aminath Namza, a well-known TV presenter and Deputy Minister at the Ministry of Local Government, as the new Chairperson of Public Service Media (PSM). Alongside her, Ibrahim Nasreen has been appointed Managing Director of PSM.
Leadership Changes at PSM
Aminath Namza, who is widely recognized for her work in television and her previous role in government, steps into the role of Chairperson at a critical time for PSM. As Chairperson, Namza will oversee the strategic direction and management of PSM, which is responsible for delivering news, information, and entertainment to the public through its various platforms.
Meanwhile, Ibrahim Nasreen, a seasoned professional in the media industry, has been appointed Managing Director. Nasreen has a long history with State media, having joined PSM 14 years ago. Over the years, he has held several key roles, including Chief Commercial Officer and e-Commerce Director. Before his appointment as Managing Director, Nasreen was filling the position of Sales and Marketing Director at PSM.
Nasreen's experience in the media industry is extensive, and his recent appointment reflects his deep understanding of the workings of PSM. Notably, he completed his PhD in Business in Malaysia in June, further adding to his qualifications. This background in both media and business is expected to provide a strong foundation for his leadership at PSM.
The media landscape in the Maldives continues to evolve, and PSM's leadership is integral in navigating this change. Nasreen's knowledge of commercial strategies and digital platforms will likely play a key role in driving PSM's future growth.
Recent Leadership Vacancies
The recent changes at PSM follow the resignation of Mohamed Saeed, who held the position of Managing Director prior to Nasreen. Saeed resigned last Tuesday after serving only four months in the role due to health reasons. This left a vacancy in the leadership team, which has now been filled by Nasreen.
Before Saeed, the position of Chairperson was held by Ibrahim Hilmy, who was appointed by the previous government in January 2019. Following a change in administration earlier this year, Hilmy was dismissed from his position in January by the board.
The appointments of Namza and Nasreen mark a fresh chapter for PSM. With leadership transitions occurring within such a short time, it will be interesting to see how the new team navigates the challenges ahead. Public Service Media plays an essential role in providing information to the public, and both Namza and Nasreen are expected to bring a wealth of experience to their roles.
PSM has always been at the heart of news and entertainment in the Maldives, and these leadership changes are poised to influence the direction of the organization in the years to come. As the media environment continues to shift with digital media becoming more prominent, the team at PSM will have to adapt and innovate to maintain its relevance.
