Updated Regulations for Umrah Agencies
In line with the ministry's recent changes to the Umrah permit regulations, companies can now submit applications for Umrah permits at any time, provided they submit their forms 30 days before the expiry of their current permit.
The permit application fee is set at MVR 20,000, while MVR 15,000 is charged for permit renewals. The ministry has also emphasized that companies must not charge higher than acceptable rates from pilgrims and must not request payments from pilgrims before a valid permit is obtained.
Responsibility of Pilgrims
The ministry clarified that if a pilgrim pays a company before verifying their permit status, the responsibility for any resulting issues will fall on the pilgrim. Pilgrims are encouraged to always confirm the agency's permit status before making payments.
This initiative aims to protect Maldivian pilgrims and ensure that Umrah services are both reliable and regulated.
