WHO Recognizes Maldives for Outstanding Public Health Achievements in Southeast Asia

The World Health Organization (WHO) has awarded the Maldives two prestigious public health achievement awards, recognizing its significant advancements in health standards across the Southeast Asian region.

During the 77th Southeast Asia Regional Committee meeting held in New Delhi, India, on Monday, the WHO celebrated countries that have made substantial contributions to public health. The Maldives was specifically acknowledged for its success in controlling Hepatitis B among children and for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) related to reducing under-5 mortality, neonatal mortality, and stillbirth rates.

Alongside the Maldives, South Korea, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, and Thailand were also honored for their public health accomplishments during the meeting. Earlier this year, on January 17, the WHO declared that both the Maldives and Sri Lanka had successfully achieved full control of Hepatitis B.
