APEX in Security Program Launched at Velana International Airport

Velana International Airport (VIA) has officially kicked off the Airport Excellence (APEX) in Security Assessment program, a program designed to evaluate and improve the airport’s security systems. Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL), in collaboration with the European Civil Aviation Conference (ECAC), is leading the five-day assessment to maintain high international security standards.

Focus on Safety and Security at VIA

With the increasing number of airlines and passengers passing through Velana International Airport, ensuring top-notch security has become a key priority. During the inauguration of the APEX program, MACL CEO and Managing Director Ibrahim Shareef Mohamed highlighted the importance of keeping service seekers safe.

“As more airlines and passengers choose VIA, the safety and security of everyone using our facilities are at the forefront of our priorities,” said Shareef. He also mentioned that a detailed action plan would be created based on the results of this assessment to strengthen airport security.

A Collaborative Approach to Improving Security

The APEX in Security program at VIA is part of MACL’s larger strategy to enhance airport operations. MACL has been working closely with global aviation organizations like the Airport Council International (ACI), International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), and the International Air Transport Association (IATA) to boost security measures at VIA.

Strengthening Security Through APEX

The main goal of the APEX in Security assessment is to identify areas where VIA can improve its security procedures. The findings will guide MACL in implementing new strategies to meet evolving global safety standards and ensure that travellers feel safe at every stage of their journey.

Through this assessment, VIA seeks to provide a secure environment that meets international guidelines, while also making the necessary adjustments to keep up with growing travel demands.
