President Muizzu Nominates Sareer for Ambassador Role in Saudi Arabia

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has nominated Ahmed Sareer, former Foreign Secretary, for the role of Maldives' Ambassador to Saudi Arabia. The nomination has been forwarded to the Parliament's Foreign Services Committee for review.

Sareer, currently serving as Ambassador at Large at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has extensive experience in diplomatic roles. Prior to his current position, he was the Asia Director for the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Saudi Arabia and returned to the Maldives following the conclusion of his term.

Sareer's diplomatic career spans decades, with notable positions including Foreign Secretary during former President Abdulla Yameen's administration and Permanent Representative of the Maldives to the United Nations, where he also served as the country's Ambassador to the U.S.

Since beginning his career in 1986, Sareer has held several key roles in foreign diplomacy, such as High Commissioner to Bangladesh and various positions at the Maldives' missions to Sri Lanka and the UN.

While the Parliament had previously approved Thoha Mohamed for the role of Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Thoha later assumed the post of Ambassador to Pakistan.
