President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has extended a special invitation to India's Hindi film industry, Bollywood, to shoot movies in the Maldives.
The invitation was announced during a Tourism and Trade promotion event in Mumbai, part of the President's ongoing state visit to India. Speaking at the event held at the Taj Mahal Palace, President Muizzu said, "The Bollywood industry can utilize the Maldives' natural beauty as their preferred location for setting up and producing films."
He encouraged Bollywood filmmakers to consider the Maldives for film tourism, emphasizing the stunning landscapes as a perfect backdrop for movies.
President Muizzu also highlighted the strong ties between the Maldives and India, noting that nearly 100,000 Indian tourists have visited the Maldives this year. "India is among our top 10 source markets, and this connection is a testament to the growing bond between our two countries," he added. He expressed optimism about further strengthening relations, unlocking new possibilities that benefit both nations.
As the Maldives holds the title of the World’s Leading Destination for the fourth consecutive year, President Muizzu attributed this success to the trust that global travelers place in the nation. He noted that Indian travelers, in particular, view the Maldives not just as a destination but as a sanctuary where they can relax and create lasting memories.
President Muizzu also emphasized the Maldives' readiness to meet the evolving demands of Indian tourists, offering niche segments such as ecotourism, wellness tourism, MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, Exhibitions) tourism, and film tourism.
To promote Maldives tourism further, President Muizzu hosted a special event with Bollywood stars in Mumbai. Celebrities like Shilpa Shetty, Arbaaz Khan, Sunny Kaushal, Sonakshi Sinha, Zaheer Iqbal, and Karishma Kapoor attended the event. Many of these stars have visited the Maldives previously and expressed their admiration for the country.
In his interactions with the Bollywood celebrities, President Muizzu invited them to revisit the Maldives and promote the country to their fans.
