President Muizzu Meets Indian Minister of External Affairs During State Visit

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has met with India’s Minister of External Affairs, Dr. Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, during his official State visit to India. This marked the President's first meeting after arriving in India earlier this afternoon, accompanied by First Lady Sajidha Mohamed and a high-level Maldivian delegation.

Jaishankar welcomed President Muizzu, expressing optimism that the President’s upcoming meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi will further strengthen the bilateral relationship between India and Maldives.

In their discussions, President Muizzu and Dr. Jaishankar reviewed ongoing projects in the Maldives, supported by the Indian government, and explored potential areas for future collaboration. Areas of interest include housing, healthcare, fisheries, agriculture, and tourism.

Later in the evening, President Muizzu met with members of the Maldivian community in Delhi at his hotel.

The official welcoming ceremony is scheduled for tomorrow, followed by talks between President Muizzu and Prime Minister Modi. While several agreements are expected to be signed, their details remain undisclosed for now.

Ahead of the visit, President Muizzu emphasized in an interview with BBC that India remains a key partner in Maldives’ development and expressed confidence in India’s support for tackling the economic challenges faced by the Maldives.

Following Delhi, the President will visit Mumbai and Bangalore as part of his State visit.
