Elections Commission Shifts Political Party De-registration to Online Platform

The Elections Commission (EC) has introduced a new online process for removing names from political party registrations, making the procedure more accessible for the public.

Starting tomorrow, individuals who wish to deregister from a political party must submit their request via the EC's portal, my.elections.gov.mv. This shift to an online platform is part of the Commission's ongoing efforts to simplify public access to its services.

In a recent update, the EC introduced its ninth amendment to the political party regulations. The amendment stipulates that political parties are required to remove individuals from their registration lists within 14 days of receiving a request.

Should a party fail to comply with this deadline, the individual has the right to file a complaint with the Elections Commission, which will then handle the deregistration on behalf of the individual.
