Former President Nasheed Applauds Improved Maldives-India Partnership

Former President Mohamed Nasheed has expressed his support for the improving diplomatic relations between the Maldives and India.

Nasheed shared his sentiments in a post on social media platform X, noting the strengthened ties between the two nations as President Mohamed Muizzu embarks on an official State visit to India, invited by Indian President Droupadi Murmu.

In his post, Nasheed remarked that "India and Maldives are natural partners with so much in common," further stating that he is "happy to see things fall into place and the relationship fixed."

As part of his visit, President Muizzu met with India’s Minister of External Affairs, Dr. Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, in his first official engagement. He is also scheduled to meet Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi later today.

The visit is seen as a key step in strengthening bilateral cooperation and fostering mutual understanding between the two neighboring countries.

This marked the President's first meeting after arriving in India earlier this afternoon, accompanied by First Lady Sajidha Mohamed and a high-level Maldivian delegation.
