MIFCO Partners with MSS to Export Fish Products via State Shipping Vessels

On Monday, the Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company (MIFCO) signed an agreement with Maldives State Shipping (MSS) to handle the export of MIFCO’s fish and fish products through MSS vessels.

Under the new arrangement, MSS will provide comprehensive logistics solutions for MIFCO’s export operations. This will involve loading MIFCO products—such as frozen tuna, canned tuna, tuna pouches, and fishmeal—onto MSS containers at MIFCO facilities across the country for shipment.

The shipping process will see MIFCO’s products transported to Malé using MSS's inter-atoll vessel, MSS Opal, before being transferred to MSS feeder boats for global export.

According to MIFCO, this agreement significantly streamlines the export process, enabling them to ship their products to any destination in the world through MSS’s established global shipping network.

Previously, MIFCO relied on connecting generator sets to supply boats and using reefer containers for transport, or bulk-loading fish onto reefer vessels for shipment to Malé. The new method is expected to reduce costs, address storage issues, and open up new markets for MIFCO’s fish products.
