Immigration Busts Prostitution Network, Deports Three Expats

Maldives Immigration has apprehended six expatriates involved in a large prostitution network operating in the country.

The group, consisting of five women and one man, was arrested during a series of special operations carried out between August and September aimed at targeting illegal prostitution businesses.

While the nationalities of the detainees have not been disclosed, Immigration confirmed that three of the individuals have already been deported following investigations, with the remaining three also in the process of deportation.

Prostitution in Massage Parlors

Numerous massage parlors across the Maldives claim to provide professional services, but they are frequently accused of engaging in prostitution.

Some expatriates working in these establishments even promote their illegal services on social media, sharing their photos and contact details.

Crackdown on Undocumented Migrants

Maldives Immigration has been intensifying efforts to tackle the issue of undocumented migrants and illegal business operations.

The agency has been conducting raids in migrant worker residential areas to crack down on these illegal activities.

Since the start of these operations, over 3,000 expatriates have been deported, prompting some undocumented workers to flee the capital and seek refuge in the atolls.

Increase in Foreign Marriages

Additionally, the Family Court has reported an increase in marriages between foreign men and local women since the deportations began.

Under Maldivian law, foreigners who marry Maldivians are eligible for long-term resident visas.
