Traffic Operations: Over 6000 Vehicles Inspected in Hulhumale in Two Weeks

Police reported inspecting more than 6,000 vehicles in Hulhumale during the last two weeks of September as part of a traffic operation focused on road safety and compliance with regulations.

Vehicles Inspected and Violations Recorded

According to statistics released today, from September 12 to 30, a total of 1,266 cars and 5,427 motorcycles were stopped at checkpoints. As a result, 482 motorists were penalized for violating traffic rules.

Among the violations:

  • 10 cars and 102 motorcycles were found to be driven by unlicensed drivers.
  • 148 motorcycles and 34 cars were stopped for breaching traffic regulations.
  • 3 cars and 40 motorcycles were flagged for dangerous driving.

Guidance and Penalties

In addition to issuing penalties, the police provided guidance to 500 motorists who had violated traffic laws, emphasizing the importance of safe driving practices.

Context and Road Safety Concerns

This special traffic operation was initiated last month following a rise in road accidents in the Greater Male' region, which tragically claimed the lives of two young men.

Police statistics reveal that a total of 2,100 road accidents have been reported so far this year.
