Male' Citizens Receive Hulhumale' Phase 2 Land Plots Under Binveriyaa Scheme

The government has officially handed over all land plots designated under the Binveriyaa Housing Scheme in Hulhumale' Phase 2.

The Ministry of Housing, Land, and Urban Development confirmed the handover in a post on X last night, reflecting on the progress made in expanding land allocation for Male’ residents.

Land Distribution in Hulhumale’ Phase 2

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, who took office with a commitment to accelerate housing development, pledged to complete the distribution of Hulhumale' Phase 2 land plots by the end of this month. This promise has now materialized under the Binveriyaa scheme, initiated by former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih. The scheme allocated 1,408 plots to eligible Male’ citizens, with boundary markers installed on a significant number of these plots by the Housing Development Corporation (HDC).

Hulhumale’ Phase 3 and Beyond

Alongside the progress in Hulhumale' Phase 2, the government is also setting sights on Hulhumale' Phase 3, where the previous administration had planned an additional 699 land plots. However, reclamation work for these plots is still pending. Expanding the land allocations beyond Hulhumale’ Phase 2 aligns with the broader vision of the Binveriyaa scheme to provide more than 9,000 plots across multiple islands, including Gulhi Falhu and Giraavaru Falhu.

Including these additional islands highlights the government’s ongoing commitment to long-term housing solutions, especially as reclamation in Hulhumale’ Phase 3 and Gulhi Falhu continues to be a priority.

Recent Changes to Land Use Plans

Since coming into office, the current administration has introduced significant changes to the original land use plans for Hulhumale' Phase 3 and Gulhi Falhu. Among these adjustments is a plot switch for recipients originally allocated plots in Giraavaru Falhu. Following resident requests, these plots have been relocated to Gulhi Falhu, where plans for reclamation and development are also progressing.

The Ministry has announced that the redraw for Gulhi Falhu plots will take place today at the Dharubaaruge Rannabandeyri Maalam, further signalling the government’s readiness to adapt to citizens' preferences and support a more efficient distribution process.

With the recent handover of Hulhumale’ Phase 2 plots and the new allocations in place, the total number of plots assigned under the Binveriyaa scheme now reaches 3,520.
