Withdrawal of Missing Expatriate Reports to Cost MVR 10,000 Under New Policy

The Government has implemented a new fee structure, charging MVR 10,000 for the withdrawal of missing person reports concerning expatriates who have fled or gone missing.

New Fee Structure

This decision was announced by the Ministry of Homeland Security and Technology today, with the regulations taking effect on Sunday.

These policies have been in place since May of last year.

According to the announcement, the fees are structured as follows:

  • A service fee of MVR 1,000 for each request to file a missing person report.
  • A fine of MVR 2,000 if an expatriate with a valid work permit goes missing or flees due to the employer's negligence.
  • A fee of MVR 10,000 if a missing person report regarding an expatriate is withdrawn.

Withdrawal Process and Grace Period

Starting Sunday, reports can be withdrawn through the XPat system.

For those looking to withdraw previously submitted reports, a 30-day grace period will be offered during which the MVR 10,000 fee will not apply.

If reports are withdrawn after this window, the fee will be enforced.

For missing person reports submitted after Sunday, a seven-day non-chargeable period will be available for withdrawals; post this period, the MVR 10,000 fee will be applicable.

The Ministry of Homeland Security stated that information regarding missing person reports will be accessible via the XPat system from Sunday.
