Maldives’ Biggest Running Event, Dhiraagu Road Race, to Kick Off Tomorrow

The Dhiraagu Maldives Road Race, the country’s biggest annual running event, will take place tomorrow. With categories for all ages and a wide variety of activities, the event promises an action-packed day for participants and spectators alike. Here's what you can expect from this highly anticipated event.

Morning Session: Half Marathon and 10K Run

The first session kicks off at 5:00 AM and will run until 9:00 AM. It features the half marathon and the 10K race, continuing the success of last year’s half marathon debut. Runners will take to the streets, with participants striving to secure top positions and impressive cash prizes.

To accommodate the race, Maldives Police will be closing streets along the race route. If you're in the area, be prepared for traffic diversions and enjoy the sight of runners working hard to reach their goals.

Afternoon Session: 5K Run and New Team Categories

The second session starts at 4:00 PM and ends at 6:00 PM, featuring the popular 5K run, open to participants of all ages. New for this year, office and resort teams can now compete in their own categories. Whether you're running solo or as part of a team, there’s something for everyone.

Fun for All Ages: Activities and Games

Beyond the races, Dhiraagu has teamed up with the Women Entrepreneurs Association Maldives (WEAM) to bring a variety of home-cooked treats to Central Park in Hulhumale'. Fun games for children will also be available, making the event a family-friendly experience.

For gaming enthusiasts, there’s an exciting tournament scheduled for the evening from 8:30 PM to 11:00 PM. Popular games like Rocket League, EAFC, and King of the Hill will be featured, with cash prizes for the top three players in each game.

Race Theme: Protecting Children's Rights

This year’s race highlights the important theme of protecting children's rights. A total of 12 organizations will participate, with MVR 200,000 awarded to the group with the highest nominations.
