MIFCO Must Compensate MVR 20.5 Million to Employment Bureau, Court Rules

The Civil Court has ruled that the Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company Ltd (MIFCO) is required to pay MVR 20.5 million in damages to Employment Bureau Maldives, denying MIFCO's request to overturn the judgment.

The verdict stems from a breach of contract case filed by Employment Bureau Maldives, with the court ordering MIFCO to make a one-time payment within 14 days.

MIFCO sought to have the judgment reviewed under the Civil Procedure Act, claiming valid reasons for not paying the compensation and expressing a desire to present new evidence.

However, the Civil Court maintained on Thursday that MIFCO did not provide sufficient grounds to alter or overturn the previous ruling. Consequently, the court concluded that there was no need to quash the original judgment.
