Vice President Advocates for Modern Methods to Foster National Identity in Children

Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef has underscored the importance of adopting contemporary methods to instill a sense of nationhood in Maldivian children. His comments were made during a ceremony marking this year’s National Day celebrations at the atoll level, held in Sh. Maaungoodhoo.

In his address, Vice President Latheef emphasized the critical role of nurturing pride in Maldivian identity among young people. He urged the public to appreciate and uphold the Dhivehi language, both in speech and writing. The Vice President also encouraged attendees to draw inspiration from President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s National Day speech at Dharubaaruge, advocating for continued progress in line with the President’s vision.

The Vice President reiterated the Government’s commitment to its “Pro Maldives” policy, focusing on combating drug addiction and addressing gang-related crimes. He outlined the administration’s goals of ensuring peace and stability, promoting new revenue-generating industries, and fostering a community of self-sufficient citizens.

Highlighting the legacy of Bodu Thakurufaanu, the Vice President praised his lifetime dedication to national service and his efforts to strengthen Maldivian sovereignty. He stressed that this spirit of national dedication should be embraced by all citizens on National Day.

During the event, the Vice President also awarded the “Maares” accolade to the three most active Women’s Development Committees in Shaviyani Atoll, recognizing their significant contributions to community development.
