MNDF Takes Over Security for Homeland Minister Ali Ihusaan

The Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) has assumed responsibility for the security of Minister of Homeland Security and Technology, Ali Ihusaan. This move marks a shift from the usual practice where the security of ministers, except for the Defence Minister, is handled by the police force.

Minister Ihusaan confirmed that the MNDF took over his security following a routine threat assessment. He emphasized that the decision was not prompted by any specific incident but was part of standard procedures for adjusting security measures based on threat evaluations. "Threat assessments are conducted periodically, and adjustments are made if necessary. This change is routine and not linked to any major incident," Ihusaan, who has military training and extensive experience in the army, stated.

The Ministry of Homeland Security is currently focused on tackling issues related to undocumented expatriates, particularly those involved in illegal business operations. The ministry's efforts include addressing undocumented expatriates operating through large networks and drafting legislation against gang crimes and drug smuggling, including proposals for capital punishment for certain offenses.

Recently, the ministry released a list of prominent businesses operating without paying expatriate fees, which includes some influential companies in the country. This initiative reflects the government's broader strategy to regulate and manage undocumented expatriate activities.
