Malaysia Signs MoU to Offer 561 Scholarships for Maldivian Students

Malaysia has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Maldives to provide 561 scholarships to Maldivian students. These scholarships will allow students to pursue higher education in various fields at top Malaysian universities.

Partnership to Strengthen Educational Collaboration

The MoU was officially signed today in a ceremony between Education Malaysia Global Services (EMGS) and the Maldivian Ministry of Higher Education. EMGS, a state-owned body under Malaysia’s Ministry of Higher Education, is focused on positioning Malaysia as a hub for international students.

Malaysia continues to demonstrate its commitment to providing quality education opportunities for Maldivian students, reflecting the growing collaboration between the two nations in the education sector.

Scholarships Cover Diverse Fields of Study

The scholarships will be distributed across six key fields of study, allowing students from a variety of academic backgrounds to benefit:

  • Arts and Humanities: 75 scholarships
  • Engineering and Technology: 150 scholarships
  • Life Sciences and Medicine: 63 scholarships
  • Natural Sciences: 11 scholarships
  • Social Sciences and Management: 255 scholarships
  • Other Fields: 7 scholarships

These scholarships are expected to help Maldivian students access world-class academic and training opportunities, contributing to their professional development.

A Milestone for Maldivian Students

Speaking at the event, Maldivian Minister of Higher Education, Dr. Maryam Mariya, emphasized the significance of the MoU. "This agreement represents a remarkable opportunity for our students and underscores the shared commitment of both nations to advancing educational collaboration," she stated.

Dr. Mariya also noted that the MoU would open doors for Maldivians to receive top-notch education abroad, which would further contribute to the country's workforce development in key sectors.

Additional Benefits for Scholarship Recipients

Aside from covering tuition fees, the scholarship program offers additional support. EMGS officials announced that students will receive assistance with visa processing and other administrative requirements. This comprehensive support system aims to make studying in Malaysia a seamless experience for Maldivian students.

Malaysia: A Leading Destination for Maldivian Students

Malaysia has traditionally been a favored destination for Maldivian students pursuing higher education. With more than 1,700 Maldivians currently enrolled in Malaysian institutions, the introduction of the new scholarship program is anticipated to strengthen educational ties between the two countries even further.

By offering financial support and streamlining the application process, Malaysia is set to continue being a top choice for Maldivians pursuing degrees in fields critical to the nation's growth and development.

The MoU marks an important chapter in the relationship between the Maldives and Malaysia, as both nations work together to foster educational collaboration and expand opportunities for Maldivian youth.
