Ismail Habeeb Appointed to the Human Rights Commission of the Maldives

Former Vice Chairperson of the Elections Commission (EC), Ismail Habeeb Abdul Raheem, has been officially appointed as a member of the Human Rights Commission of the Maldives (HRCM). The appointment was confirmed today during a ceremony held at the President’s Office.

Supreme Court Justice Ali Rasheed Hussain administered the oath of office, following which President Mohamed Muizzu presented the official letter of appointment to Habeeb.

Habeeb brings a wealth of experience to his new role. He served as Vice Chairperson of the Elections Commission from 2021 to 2024, following two consecutive terms as a member of the Commission. His extensive background in electoral processes and governance is expected to contribute significantly to his work at the HRCM.

In addition to his professional experience, Habeeb holds a Bachelor’s degree in Shar’iah and Law from Villa College and a Master of Arts in Dhivehi Language from the National University of Maldives, further strengthening his qualifications for his new role.

The appointment marks a new chapter in Habeeb's career, and it is anticipated that his legal expertise and leadership experience will enhance the commission’s work in protecting and promoting human rights across the Maldives.
