Government to Launch Transport System for Reclaimed Areas Near Male’

The Maldivian government is set to unveil a comprehensive transportation system aimed at connecting newly reclaimed areas near Male’ City. This initiative is being executed in partnership with the Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation and the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC).

The development of several lagoons within the Greater Male’ Region is a pivotal element of the government’s extensive master plan, with the Rasmale’ project standing out as a flagship effort announced by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.

Current projects in the region are focusing on laying the groundwork for essential services, with a particular emphasis on establishing a robust transport network. MTCC’s Managing Director, Ahmed Saudhy, confirmed that the development of a transportation system linking these newly reclaimed areas has commenced.

Saudhy explained that MTCC is working closely with the Ministry of Transport to design and implement transportation models for the region. President Muizzu’s vision includes integrating transport links between Rasmale’, Giraavarufalhu, and Gulhifalhu.

Additionally, the government has recently adjusted the start time for bus services in the Greater Male’ Region to 5:00 AM from the previous 6:00 AM start. MTCC is actively gathering data on peak hours and passenger demand to further optimize the transport network.
