Cabinet Secretary Ahmed Nominated for BML Board of Directors

The government has nominated Cabinet Secretary Ahmed Ali Habeeb for a position on the Bank of Maldives (BML) Board of Directors. This nomination, along with those of Mohamed Shahid and Ali Irfan, will be addressed during the upcoming Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) scheduled for Saturday, October 21.

Ahmed, hailing from Baa Atoll Eydhafushi, brings extensive experience as a chartered accountant to his nomination. His notable background includes serving on the board of Housing Development Corporation (HDC) and holding the role of General Manager at Apollo Holdings Private Limited.

The EGM will see appointments to BML's board, which currently comprises eight members, half of whom are appointed by the government. The board typically consists of 11 members, with three representing general shareholders.

Shareholders listed in the register before September 10 are eligible to attend this year's EGM. The meeting will also mark the end of Karl Stumke's tenure as BML's CEO, who has resigned effective September 21 and will be participating in the EGM.

This EGM will be the third of its kind held by BML this year, following two previous meetings to fill board positions.
